Taliban suspected in Pakistan bombing

PARACHINAR, Pakistan, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- A bomb blast killed seven people attending a meeting of tribal elders in Pakistan's Kurram region near the Afghanistan border, an official said.

Taliban insurgents have conducted a bombing campaign in Pakistan and are suspected in this incident, Britain's GEO TV said Monday.

"The death toll could be higher," Naeemullah Jan said in the report.

The Taliban have not been as active in recent weeks, while the Pakistani people cope with the country's worst flooding in decades, the report said. UPI
