BASRA, Iraq, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- The death toll from a car bomb in Iraq's second largest city, Basra, climbed to 43 by Sunday morning, officials said.
The Interior Ministry said the car bomb detonated a fuel tank, spreading fire through a crowded market Saturday, five months after Iraqis voted for a new government that has yet to be seated, The New York Times reported.
Besides the dead, another 185 were wounded, the ministry said.
Another car bomb attack outside a passport office killed eight people and wounded 50.
The U.S. military said an American soldier was killed in southern Iraq Saturday. UPI
