NEW YORK, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- A bleach spill on the top floor of a New York skyscraper prompted the closure of six blocks on along Seventh Avenue near Times Square, fire officials said.
Crews were treating the water system when an equipment malfunction dumped 30 gallons of hydrogen peroxide on the 54th floor of Astor Plaza at 1515 Broadway Sunday evening, The New York Times said Monday.
Firefighters were called to the scene about 8:30 p.m., and when officials learned the nature of the spill, a hazardous materials crew was called. There were no reports of injuries, but two workers underwent decontamination, the Times said. Fire officials said the chemical can cause severe burns. UPI
