VIRGINIA WATER, England, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Martin Kaymer's win at the PGA Championship shoved him up eight spots to No. 5 in the men's world golf rankings released Monday.
Kaymer defeated Bubba Watson in a three-hole playoff Sunday at Kohler, Wis., for his first major tournament title and a return to the Top 10, but he'd never before been ranked as high No. 5.
Watson went from 51st to 26th by making the playoff.
Only one player -- seventh-ranked Rory McIlroy -- of last week's Top 10 finished higher than tied for 12th at the PGA Championship so there were several changes near the top of the rankings.
None of the changes were among the top four. Tiger Woods, tied for 28th at the PGA, is No. 1. He has held the top spot for the last 271 weeks but could be caught this week by either No. 2 Phil Mickelson, who was 12th at the PGA, or Lee Westwood, who missed the tournament with an injury, and is ranked third. Steve Stricker, tied for 18th at the PGA, is fourth. UPI
