Happier employees = higher profits

WASHINGTON, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Employers can save money through higher employee retention and customer loyalty if their employees have positive attitudes, U.S. researchers say.

Psychological scientist James K. Harter of Gallup Inc. and colleagues find employee perceptions of work conditions -- whether the employee thinks the company is fair, rewards success, maintains benefits, etc. -- may have a big impact on the company's bottom line.

Researchers analyzed data from more than 2,000 business units -- including retail stores, factories, sales offices -- of 10 companies. The data included employee satisfaction surveys, employee retention rates, customer loyalty and financial performance of the organizations. UPI
