KABUL, Afghanistan, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- An attack on an International Security Assistance Forces base in eastern Afghanistan by insurgents Friday was unsuccessful, ISAF officials said.
The insurgents attacked with indirect and small-arms fire that was quickly suppressed when ISAF soldiers returned fire, an ISAF release said.
Two Afghan civilians injured outside the base during the attack were treated and released.
No coalition service members were injured, and there was no permanent damage to the base, ISAF officials said.
In another operation, an Afghan woman was killed as coalition forces entered a compound in Khost province to arrest a suspected terrorist commander.
After a weapon was pointed at them from the compound, they opened fire. Upon entering the compound, the coalition troops found a woman dead in a room with an assault rifle next to her. UPI
