Man refused to attend his murder trial

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- A North Carolina man facing charges in the killing of two police officers refused to leave his jail cell to attend his trail, authorities said.

Just a few minutes after the trial of Demeatrius Montgomery started, Judge Forrest Bridges ordered a recess so attorney Duane Bryant could talk to his client, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported Monday.

Montgomery is maintaining the silence he's kept up for 3 /2 years, Bryant said.

"He made no comment, no reaction, he refused to get dressed," Bryant said. "My exact words were: 'Today's your trial date, you need to get ready to go'".

Bridges said he did not intend to proceed without Montgomery, 28, and would order deputies to forcibly bring him to court. UPI
