ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- An important militant commander is said to be among three insurgents killed by government troops in northwest Pakistan Tuesday, intelligence sources say.
The identity of the commander was not released but the sources told China's official Xinhua news agency a cache of arms was recovered after the fighting.
At least 81 people have been killed, including civilians and militants, in the past week in northwest Pakistan's tribal areas.
Aug. 23 was the worst day as terrorists retaliated against the government for closing down their flood relief camps in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
At least 53 people lost their lives in separate incidents. UPI
