LONDON, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Andy Roddick jumped back into the Top 10 Monday in the final world men's tennis rankings released before the year's final Grand Slam event.
Roddick dropped out of the Top 10 two weeks ago, leaving the list without an American player for the first time. But after a No. 13 ranking last week, Roddick advanced to the semifinals of the ATP's stop in Cincinnati and improved his ranking to No. 9.
It will be seen this week how that affects Roddick's chances at the U.S. Open, which begins Aug. 30.
Tournament officials will release the draw, based on rankings, late in the week.
Juan Martin Del Potro, who jumped to No. 5 in the world after he won the U.S. Open last year, said his injured wrist will keep him out of the tournament. He will likely drop from the Top 10 in the post-Open rankings. UPI
