Accused denies cheating royal court

An Emirati man accused of embezzling Dh3 million from a Royal Family’s court in Abu Dhabi has pleaded innocence and denied any wrongdoing.
However Saeed Abdul Baseer, Chief Justice of the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court reminded him that he had confessed to prosecutors on taking the money and promised to return it, reported The National.
Identified as HA, the man who was head of the Media and Cultural Centre for the President’s Representative for nearly 18 months told a court that embezzlement was not the right description for the charge since what he took was salaries due to him.
On the charge that he took an official car, HA said he got it as part the employment benefits. Seeking judicial intervention to return the car, he said his former office had refused to accept the car when he tried to return it.
The amount he allegedly embezzled includes his 18 months’ wages and allowances for trips made to Egypt and Lebanon, he said.
