Russia's top investigator, Alexander Bastrykin, ordered to open a criminal case against police officers who failed to ensure proper security at a rock festival in Russia's Urals that came under attack last week, a Russian Investigative Committee's official representative said.
Some 30 people were injured when a group of about 150 men armed with clubs and guns with rubber bullets attacked a rock festival in the city of Miass on August 29, festival organizer Valikhan Turgumbayev said the following day after the attack.
They attacked security guards and police, who were unarmed, as well as spectators.
The organizers of the rock festival said there were enough security and police but they were unprepared for such an attack.
"The Investigative Committee's chief [Bastrykin] ordered to launch a criminal case against the police officers who failed to ensure proper security at the Tornado festival in Chelyabinsk Region city of Miass and for the festival participants and guests," Vladimir Markin said.
Bastrykin also instructed the Ural Investigative Committee's chief to initiate a criminal case into the beatings of participants at the festival and to expedite its investigation, Markin said. Bastrykin also demanded to establish the identities of the organizers of the attack and to arrest them.
Some 6,000 people visited the Tornado-2010 festival, featuring some of Russia's most popular rock bands.
