Russia's Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), a vast Siberian land of taiga and permafrost, will showcase gold, diamonds and mammoth ivory carvings at the Shanghai Expo, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported on Monday.
The exhibition will feature craftwork, minerals and other valuables placed in crystal-shaped showcases.
"The Yakut exposition illustrates all aspects of urban civilization in conditions of the extreme North, [and] provides an opportunity to share the experience of urban development in this unique natural environment," Vladimir Strashko, the commissioner general of the Russian Federation at the exhibition, said.
At its exhibition in the Russian Expo-2010 pavilion, Yakutia will also present its national urban development project.
The 2010 World Expo is held in Shanghai from May 1 to October 31, 2010. Up to 70 million people are expected to visit the city for the event, which has seen investment of up to $4 billion.
