‘India could meet UAE’s healthcare needs’

The UAE has called for India’s assistance in meeting UAE’s demand for healthcare.
Dr Hanif Hassan, UAE Minister of Health, said the abundance of medical professionals in India could be well tapped to meet the growing need for world class healthcare in the UAE, especially in the treatment of diabetes.
Speaking during the Suhoor organised by the Indian Business and Professional Council in Dubai, he said: “While India has a robust pharmaceutical industry focused on innovative discovery and manufacturing, the UAE faces an explosion of diabetes. Together we might find solutions to prevent, treat and someday eradicate this harmful disease,” said Hassan.
According to the International Diabetes Federation, the UAE has the second highest prevalence of diabetes for adult population (20-79 years) in the world with an estimated standardised prevalence of 18.7 per cent for 2010, which is expected to increase to 21.4 per cent by 2030.
“Healthcare will continue to be the leading industry in both the UAE and India. There is a great need for innovations in technology, in human resource development and service industry. Like most countries we face the challenges of mitigating the effects of communicable disease, of chronic illness and trauma, caused by natural and manmade disasters,” he added.
