Iran bombing kills nine, injures 20

MAHABAD, Iran, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- At least nine people were killed and 20 injured Wednesday when a bomb went off during a military parade in the Iranian city of Mahabad, an official said.

Gov. General Vahid Jalalzadeh told the government-supported Press TV the attack was carried out by "anti-revolution agents" to "take revenge on the people of Mahabad".

Most of the victims were women and children gathered to watch the Sacred Defense Week parade held in Iranian cities each year to mark the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq War.

No group or person has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

In Tehran, Iranian armed forces paraded their latest equipment and weapons to mark Defense Week.
