SAN DIEGO, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Jason Giambi and Troy Tulowitzki hit two-run homers during the early innings Friday and the Colorado Rockies held on down the stretch to defeat San Diego 4-3.
The Padres lost their eighth straight game, but stayed three in front of second-place San Francisco in the National League West when the Giants fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Giambi's homer came in the second inning and Tulowitzki hit his in the third, both coming off Cory Luebke (0-1).
Luebke made his first major league start after being called up from Class AAA Portland.
San Diego got a run back in the sixth and Nick Hundley hit a two-run homer in the seventh to bring the Padres within one.
