No amnesty announced in UAE as yet

Contrary to news reports appearing in at least two mainstream Indian newspapers, officials at the Indian Consulate in Dubai have confirmed to Emirates 24|7 that the UAE hasn't announced an amnesty scheme for allowing illegal foreigners to leave the country without any penalties.
Some Indian national dailies reported today that nearly 30,000 Indians staying illegally in the UAE stood to benefit from an amnesty scheme announced by the country.
Reports said that that the move to allow passage to illegal workers, stuck here for violation of various immigration rules and regulations, was welcomed by India.
However, speaking to this website, Madhu Sethi, Consul and Head of Chancery, Consulate General of India in Dubai, clarified that Indian media might have confused the UAE with Saudi Arabia, which yesterday announced a six-month amnesty period for foreigners overstaying their visa expiry or those having violated passport regulations.
