Palestinian killed by Israeli guard

JERUSALEM, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Riots erupted in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan early Wednesday after an Israeli security guard killed a Palestinian, police said.

An Israeli security guard patrolling the neighborhood opened fire after Palestinians blocked the road with trash cans and began throwing stones at his patrol vehicle, Ynetnews.com said.

Fearing for his life, the guard opened fire, killing one Palestinian and injuring three others, one seriously, the site said.

A large Israeli security presence was deployed to the area after clashes erupted following the incident, Israel Radio said.

An Israeli police officer was injured by stones and police used tear gas to disperse the rioters, the report said.

The security guard was detained by Israel Police for questioning.
