Tropical storms off two coasts monitored

MIAMI, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Tropical storms brewed in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, with the Pacific storm prompting a watch along the Mexican coast, forecasters said Wednesday.

Mexican authorities posted a tropical storm watch from Huatabampito to Bahia Kino as Georgette, with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, moved north-northwest over the Gulf of California, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said in its 5 a.m. EDT advisory.

Georgette was about 155 miles south of Guaymas, and about 115 miles north-northwest of La Paz, the center said.

The storm was expected to tack north, making landfall in the tropical storm watch area later Wednesday, NHC said. Forecasters said Georgette wasn't expected to intensify before landfall and would dissipate by Friday.

Georgette could produce 4-6 inches of rain, capable of producing flooding and mudslides, over the southern Baja Peninsula, with maximum isolated amounts of 10 inches possible, the center said.
