Robbed taxi driver in dock for trying to kill attacker


A Pakistani taxi driver who was robbed by three men, attempted to kill one of them using a shovel, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.
On November 28, 2009, at around 12.30am, SHM, 20, Emirati student; KAS, 21, Iranian, salesman; and HMH, 29, Emirati, jobless, asked MOJ, 28, a taxi driver, to drop them to Murdif area from Al Rashidiya where they hailed the cab.
When reaching Murdif area they asked him to stop at a dark street. As he stopped he expected the one sitting in the front seat to pay the fare, but he did not and instead the three attacked him and stole his purse and mobile phone and ran away.
The driver ran after two of them who got into a house.
SHM pulled a knife and attacked the taxi driver while HMH beat him with his hands, testified the taxi driver before the prosecution.
He added that he fell on a shovel on the ground and hit SHM with it. HMH ran out and knocked at the door of a neighbouring house, confessed the driver before the prosecution.
Suhaib Wasef, 34, Jordanian, trader, testified before the prosecution that at around 1.30am he heard screams in the neighbouring house and saw a man holding his shirt in his hand and knocking at the door of another house. He went out and saw the taxi driver who asked him to call police while he was beating a man lying on the ground.
Suhaib called the police and asked the taxi driver not to move until police arrived.
