BELLEVILLE, Ill., Sept. 22 (UPI) -- An Illinois man who allegedly made threats against Muslims and President Obama surrendered to authorities after a seven-hour standoff in his home, police said.
Police and FBI agents arrived at the Fairview, Ill., home of Roman Conway, 50, after members of the St. Louis Muslim community alerted the FBI Tuesday that Conway had called them making vague threats against them and the president, the Belleville (Ill.) News-Democrat reported.
When they arrived, they found Conway wearing what he claimed was an explosive belt and threatening suicide, the newspaper said.
Conway pointed to two 55-gallon drums and said he had a remote triggering device that would detonate them if he were shot or attacked, FBI Special Agent in Charge Stu McArthur said.
Also in the home with Conway were his wife and son, police said.
During the standoff, Conway posted messages on Facebook.
