Britons see grave terror threats in Yemen

SANAA, Yemen, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- The al-Qaida threat in Yemen is increasing, said the British envoy to Sanaa in response to an attack on a British diplomatic convoy.

Yemeni militants attacked a vehicle belonging to the British Embassy, wounding a British staff member.

A French contractor was killed and a British worker with Austrian energy company OMV was wounded when a Yemeni security guard attacked them in a separate incident Wednesday.

Tim Torlot, the British envoy to Yemen and target of an al-Qaida attack early this year, said the threat level from al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, the Yemeni branch of the terrorist group, was troubling.

"I think the threat in Yemen is increasing," he said in a statement.

France, which is on alert for threats from the North African branch of al-Qaida, expressed its "wholehearted solidarity and support" for Yemen as it tackles the AQAP threat.
