PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- The Oregon woman who killed an expectant mother for her unborn child has been sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole.
Korena Roberts cut an unborn baby boy from Heather Snively's body after luring her to her Beaverton-area home to pick up baby clothes, The Portland Oregonian reported Thursday. The baby did not survive.
In a sentencing hearing Wednesday, prosecutor Bob Herman said Roberts, 29, pretended she was pregnant, and lured the 21-year-old Snively to the home she shared with her boyfriend and her two children in June 2009.
There, Herman said, Roberts knocked Snively unconscious before cutting the baby from her uterus. An autopsy found Snively died from blood loss, and not from the blows that rendered her unconscious.
Roberts' attorney wanted a sentence that would have permitted parole.
