BANGKOK, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- The Thai government said Tuesday it is extending for another three months a state of emergency imposed in April for Bangkok and three adjacent provinces.
A government spokesman told the country's MCOT news agency the cabinet decided to extend the emergency decree following reports of continuing disturbances around the capital.
The state of emergency was due to expire on Wednesday.
The extension request submitted to the cabinet indicated anti-government Red Shirt protesters are continuing to hold political gatherings and Bangkok remains a target for disturbances.
Also, demonstrations were reportedly being planned by a number of political factions during the month of October.
Last week Thailand's prime minister lifted the state of emergency for three Northeastern provinces.
