3 slain in Ohio family; son held

TOLEDO, Ohio, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- A man allegedly killed three relatives in Ohio, and when his stepbrother found the bodies he first assumed it was a Halloween stunt, authorities said.

A single count of murder was filed against William J. Liske, 24, in Ottawa County Municipal Court, Prosecutor Mark Mulligan said Monday. The charge will hold Liske until the case is presented to a grand jury, Mulligan said.

William E. Liske Jr., 53, the suspect's father; Susan M. Liske, 46, his stepmother; and her son, Derek L. Griffin, 23, were killed at their home in Benton Township Sunday.

Sheriff 's detective George Byington said the suspect's stepbrother, Devon Griffin, 16, came home from church, noticed something suspicious in the house and found his mother dead in her bedroom.

When he discovered his mother's and stepfather's bodies, he first thought the scene was a joke left over from a Halloween party in their barn Saturday night, Sheriff Bob Bratton told The (Toledo) Blade.

Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene around 2 p.m. Sunday. About 3 1/2 hours later, Liske was arrested by Carroll County sheriff's deputies in a family cabin in Perry Township, about 170 miles away.

He was held in the Carroll County jail.
