SAN DIEGO, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Two active-duty Marines were arrested as suspects in a credit union robbery and chase outside of San Diego, police said.
Davan Darden, 23, and Dominique Dontae Lasker, 26, were arrested following a robbery at a California Credit Union branch in La Mesa Saturday afternoon, San Diego police Lt. Kevin Rooney told the Los Angeles Times.
Darden and Lasker were held in the San Diego County Jail pending an appearance Monday before a U.S. magistrate judge, police said.
Witnesses told the The San Diego Union-Tribune the credit union robbers drove away and a San Diego officer found their vehicle in the Rolando neighborhood, which borders La Mesa.
San Diego police responding to the scene spotted Darden trying to walk away, Rooney said. The Marine began running and then "turned and reached for his waistband," the lieutenant said.
An officer, believing the man was reaching for a gun, fired several shots. The suspect, who was not hit, continued running and was later found by SWAT officers and a police dog in a garage.
San Diego City Councilwoman Marti Emerald told the Union-Tribune investigators called Lasker on his cellphone and lured him to a spot in Rolando to discuss the robbery, arresting him late Saturday.
