Informant says he's 'a dead man'

TORONTO, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- A former member of the downtown Toronto Hells Angels told a Canadian court he's "a dead man" for working undercover for authorities investigating the club.

David Atwell said he must spend the rest of his life in hiding for spending 18 months as a paid police agent against the bikers, the Toronto Star reported.

"I'm a ... rat," he told the court.

"I've got to be hiding for the rest of my life ... . I'm a dead man".

Atwell's testimony came on the second day of the drugs and weapons trial Tuesday of five members of the downtown Toronto Hells Angels arrested at their clubhouse in April 2007.

The president of the club, John Neal, 60, along with two vice presidents and two other members, face criminal conspiracy charges.

"Those members of Hells Angels have killed for the club," Atwell told the jury in explaining what "Front Line" and "Filthy Few" patches worn by some members meant.

He described how they routinely swept the clubhouse for police listening devices and spoke with hand signals and code words when discussing drug deals.
