DUBLIN, Ireland, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- A few protesters clashed with police as thousands of students demonstrated Wednesday in Dublin, Ireland, against prospective increases in university fees.
An estimated 25,000 students marched to Leinster House, seat of the Irish parliament, The Irish Times reported. One group blocked the gates by sitting down.
Another group of about 2,000 clustered outside the Department of Finance. Some threw eggs and bricks at the building and about 20 got inside in an attempt to occupy the department, only to be thrown out by police.
Injuries and arrests were reported as police in riot gear forced students away from the building.
The Union of Students of Ireland released a statement calling the group at the Department of Finance disruptors.
