Qantas plane forced into emergency landing

SYDNEY, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- A Qantas airplane was safely on the ground Thursday following an emergency landing in Singapore after experiencing engine trouble, airline officials said.

No injuries were reported among the 440 passengers and 26 crew on board the Qantas A380 aircraft, airline officials said in a release.

"Some media reports suggested the aircraft had crashed," the release said. "These reports are incorrect. No Qantas aircraft has crashed".

Qantas flight QF 32, bound for Sydney, departed Singapore Changi Airport but was forced to return after experiencing engine trouble, Bernama reported.

Indonesian officials are in charge of collecting and preserving parts of the engine cover that fell from the plane, Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Officials said debris was scattered across residential and business areas on Batam Island, south of Singapore. Residents said they heard an explosion and saw smoke flowing from the plane.
