TSA agent played pranks on passengers

WASHINGTON, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- A U.S. Transportation Security Administration employee fired for pranks on passengers apparently acted out of boredom while gathering data, records show.

The Smoking Gun, an investigative Web site, used the Freedom of Information Act to obtain records on the incident in January at Philadelphia International Airport. The employee, whose name was removed from the documents, was evaluating screening equipment.

The documents said the man "began to engage passengers" during periods of up to 10 minutes when he had nothing to do. He used bags of white powder, asking passengers if the substance, which appeared to be cocaine, had been in their luggage.

The substance was actually a nutritional supplement.
