ID card applicants rise 126% in last two months

Number of people registered with the Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) in the last two months increased 126 per cent compared to the same period last year.
A total of 2,610,350 people registered with the authority in October and November compared to 1,150,958 people during the same months in 2009, reported Al Bayan.
Dr Ali Mohammad Khouri, Director-General, Eida, said: "In Octoer 136,000 people applied for identity cards against 47,500 people in October 2009.
And 125,350 people obtained ID cards last month against 68,458 people last November".
On an average more than 8,000 people registered per day with Eida, he added.
The new registration system has significantly reduced the time consumed for processing applications, with each transaction taking no ore than five minutes, Dr Khouri said. This is one of the main reasons for the increase in the number of applicants, he added. Emirates 24|7
