Ministry warns against false ‘absconding’ reports

The Ministry of Labour has confirmed that wrong complaints made by employers to report employees as absconding would attract penalties.
While workers leaving their sponsors without legal reasons will attract ban, employers making false complaints against workers will also be penalised, Arabic language media reported. The issue came up in the weekly meeting of the ministry in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
A committee that looks into such labour issues stated that the ministry receives false complaints from employers who seek to shirk their responsibilities towards workers under their sponsorship. By lodging false complaints they try not to pay the end of service benefits.
The meeting held in the presence of Qasim Mohammed Jamil, Director of the guidance department clarified that employers who need to report absconding workers under their sponsorship need to be careful about the legitimacy of the complaints.
The ministry is careful in evaluating such complaints to safeguard the labour rights of the workers and if the employers’ accusations are proved wrong, the ministry would initiate action to liquidate the security deposits made while processing labour permits for the worker concerned. A penalty will also be slapped on the company. Emirates 24|7
