2 dead, 5 wounded outside motorcycle club

CHICAGO, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Two men were killed and five other people were critically wounded in Chicago early Sunday in a shooting at a motorcycle club's hangout, police said.

Killed were Emmit Suddoth, age not given, and Bryant Glass, 39, the Chicago Tribune reported. The names of the wounded, who included two women, were not reported.

The shooting occurred at 1:39 a.m. at the Hawks Motorcycle Club's clubhouse on Chicago's South Side where the group held a meeting Saturday night. Police said the shooting stemmed from a dispute inside the club, the Tribune said.

The gunmen fled but police said they were talking to a person of interest in the case. No charges had been filed as of Sunday night, the newspaper said.

Club member Finley Smiley said Suddoth was the club's president.

"He was a fun-loving person," Smiley, 51, said. "His life was motorcycles".

The Tribune said records indicate Suddoth was one of seven people indicted on federal charges in an alleged $35 million mortgage-fraud scheme. UPI
