Photo identifies councilman's killer

MANILA, Philippines, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A district councilman in the Philippines accidentally snapped a picture of the man who fatally shot him early New Year's Day, police said.

Reynaldo Dagsa of Barangay 35 in Caloocan City was taking a picture of his family just after midnight when a suspected car thief he had sent to jail fired at him as he was pressing the shutter release, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported Tuesday.

Dagsa was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His relatives showed the photograph to authorities who were allegedly able to identify the gunman as Michael Gonzales, the report said. Also in the photo were two lookouts.

Gonzales was arrested Monday afternoon and is now in police custody in Manila.

The two other suspects, identified as Rommel Oliva and Francis Bumjal, remain at large and are being sought by authorities.

All three men are residents of Barangay 35, police said. UPI
