Salinas police unveil 100th California Rodeo commemorative badge

By Kimber Solana

Salinas police officers are wearing their Rodeo pride on their badges — literally.

Police Chief Louis Fetherolf and California Rodeo Salinas President Craig Andrus unveiled the simple six-point star commemorative badge Thursday. It honors the 100th year of the event at the Rodeo grounds.
"The Rodeo is such a part of Salinas tradition and culture," said Officer Lalo Villegas. "We as law enforcement officers have always been a part of the event".
Up to 30 police officers, along with former employees, volunteer on their days off to provide extra security at the Rodeo, held in July, said Cmdr. Bob Eggers, who wore his gold-colored badge Thursday.
Police officers began donning the badges Thursday and will wear them throughout the end of 2010. Anyone above a rank of sergeant wears a gold badge, while others will wear silver-colored ones. Link
