2 missing, 11K homeless from rain, floods

SEOUL, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Two fishermen were reported missing and at least 11,800 people were homeless as rains swamped South Korea, emergency officials said Wednesday.

The National Emergency Management Agency said nearly 4 inches of rain per hour fell in Seoul, leaving 4,630 households without power and 7,100 houses flooded, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported.

The emergency agency said two people were reported missing and are thought to have been swept away while fishing in Gangwon province.

Emergency subsidies to the flood victims for disaster-related losses would be awarded, Yonhap said.

Seoul metro government officials said $4.82 million would be available for flood relief.
