SOCASTEE, S.C., Sept. 22 (UPI) -- A South Carolina high school opened under tight security Wednesday less than 24 hours after a student fired at a school police officer, officials said.
A spokeswoman for Horry County Schools said students and parents should expect delays gaining entrance to Socastee High School.
Teal Britton told the Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Sun News students will go through metal detectors and all property will be searched by trained personnel.
The school, near Myrtle Beach, was evacuated after the shooting Tuesday afternoon so bomb-detecting robots and a K-9 team could search the premises.
Sgt. Robert Kegler of the Horry County Police Department told CNN several devices were found.
An unidentified male student was detained, Kegler said.
